Bruce Shelley, designer conhecido por sua contribuição em games como "Civilization", "Railroad Tycoon" e "Age of Empires" será o 12º indicado ao Hall da Fama da Academia de Artes e Ciências Interativas (AIAS, na sigla em inglês). A premiação será realizada em 18 de fevereiro de 2009, no decorrer do evento anual D.I.C.E. Summit, em Las Vegas.

Shelley começou a trabalhar com jogos de tabuleiro na década em 1980. Até hoje é um ávido colecionador, tendo mais de 500 títulos. Em 1988, fez a transição para os jogos de computador ao entrar na Microprose, onde trabalhou como produtor e designer assistente de Sid Meier (que também é ganhador do Hall da Fama da AIAS). Nesse período colaborou em games como "Railroad Tycoon", "Covert Action" e "Civilization".

Em 1995, Shelley se juntou a Tony Goodman para fundar a Ensemble Studios, e criou a clássica franquia de estratégia "Age of Empires". O último trabalho da produtora foi "Halo Wars", previsto para sair em fevereiro de 2009 para o Xbox 360. A companhia, comprada pela Microsoft em 2001, será dissolvida depois de terminados os trabalhos de "Halo Wars".

"Estou profundamente honrado de receber este prêmio", agradeceu Shelley. "Acredito que isto também honre meus colegas de anos na Microprose e especialmente na Ensemble Studios, de quem eu aprendi tanto. Sou muito grato às oportunidades que apareceram em meu caminho, e que espero ter retribuído à esta grande indústria".

Nos anos passados, os outros vencedores do Hall da Fama foram Trip Hawkins (fundador da Electronic Arts), Peter Molyneux (criador de "Fable II"), Yu Suzuki ("Virtua Fighter" e "Shenmue), Will Wright ("The Sims" e "Spore"), John Carmack ("Doom"), Hironobu Sakaguchi ("Final Fantasy"), Sid Meier ("Civilization"), Shigeru Miyamoto ("Mario Bros." e "The Legend of Zelda"), Richard Garriott ("Ultima"), Danielle Bunten Berry ("M.U.L.E.") e Mike Morhaime (co-fundador da Blizzard Entertainment).
